What do you have now?

I picked up the 30D refurbished with a kit 18-55mm lens for $649 from adorama. It's like brand new. Only way I'd know it was a refurb is the little sticker on the bottom. I added a 2 year Mack warranty for $35. My rebel XT and 18-55mm lens are going to my dad. He's as excited as I am I think.

I have an XT, But now I'm looking for something with exposure lock. A full frame sensor would be nice, but I might have to hold off for a few more years for that. I don't know why canon didn't put lock on the XT.

I use manual mode for that but isn't the * button exposure lock?

I could be wrong, but I didn't think the XT had it, I know the * button can be used with the flash for flash evaluation.

hmm

from page 92 of the user manual

* AE Lock
AE Lock lets you lock the exposure at a different place than the point of focus.

and

Each time you press the * button it locks the current exposure setting.

user manual here
http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/mg.maes...PDF-Manual.pdf

You are right about the flash. If you have the flash on the * button is FE lock and locks the flash exposure.

That's the first thing I did when I got mine.

I honestly used that button like 2 times. It only lets you take one then you would have to lock the exposure again. Using manual you can set up the camera and take as many as you want.

once you own one canon the rest are all the same. They just move the buttons around a little.

Nice! Is the 30D water resistant like the 40D? I'm hoping to get the 5D next year. Full frame sensor FTW!
