New Beltronics STi-R and Escort Passport 9500ci Detectors

Just wanted to update everyone on the two newest remote display detectors, that are going to hit the market soon. But, they are pretty pricey!

For pictures, and more information, check out our Radar Detector Blog at Radars For Rent Blog

Beltronics STi-R

Already available overseas, it's making it's debut here.

All the same features as the STi, but with 2 improvements. First, user selectable, Ka segmenting. Basically, this allows you to filter out certain portions of the very wide Ka band, to hone in on the bands used in your area. This is a big draw for international markets, as it makes the detector very universal. Second, there should be an improvement in laser detection, as the receiver module will now be located near to the license plate instead of on the windshield.

It's made up of five components: control module, display module, interface module, combined radar and laser receiver and amplified speaker.

Cost? Suggested retail of $1,099.95

Escort Passport 9500ci

This remote display detector combines all of the technology of the 9500i model (GPS antennae, GPS lock feature and Ku band) with the technology of the Beltronics STi Driver (invisible to radar detector detectors, dual front antennae, and RF antennae lens)

It's made up of nine components: control module, radar and laser receiver module, display module, voice speaker, interface module, GPS module, two grill laser shifters and a license plate laser shifter.

Cost? Estimated retail of $1,999.95

What I didn't mention in that short blurb (I had a much longer one written out, and then the forum logged me out, so I wasn't 100% feeling up to typing it all out again) is that the Escort Passport 9500ci INCLUDES the new ZR4 shifters. They are a little smaller than the ZR3s, and are selling alone for about $600. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase the 9500ci WITHOUT the ZR4 shifters (as of now).

The ZR4 incorporates a new dual pulse rate that jams guns that are programmed either to normal or stealth mode.

As for how they compare to the older models, we can't be sure yet. No one's gotten their hands them. They were just debuted at this years Consumer Electronics Show, but the rumor for the 9500ci is that it will be available the second quarter of this year.

(Two other random things of note: Escort and Beltronics have done away with their policy of requiring professional installation of the remote models. They've also used color coding on all the wires and connections, AND are planning to include an instructional DVD with the units)

the ZR3 saved my arse in Georgia on AKA Rally. Still went to jail lol but that all got dropped, and no tix! So that's worth it in spades. Not so sold on the GPS features etc but that's cool.

Install wise, having done two SR7/X + shifters, I cant say I disagreed with their old polices, it takes a good 12V tech to do it. Color coding probably will help, the main thing on the old ones was crap documentation.

.... of course it's all moot cuz I don't need them for my tow vehicle or track car and am without a fun daily lol. Who knows which will happen first, these ship or I get another car.

For those that don't know, the Escort Passport 9500i (and now the 9500ci) model has integrated GPS that helps filter out false alerts by registering obvious false alerts. It does this in one of two ways:

1) it is user programmable, so if you drive by CVS every day and know that you detect X band there, you can hit a button and the detector will know from there on out not to report that band in that location.

2) If the detector picks up the same alert in the same location three times, and notes that you didn't slow down for any of them, it automatically registers it as a false alert and acts as if you had manually programed it in.

It definitely sounds that documentation is going to be made a lot better, especially since they are now expecting most people to do the install themselves. Of course, they are saying NOW that they are going to include a DVD, but we'll see what REALLY comes with once the first packages are sent out (and of course, I will keep everyone updated!)
