Linked is the ESPN survey on this very issue. Amongst a panel of MLB "professionals" they said Big Mac is not Hall worthy. If you read the links they provide to the stories with their arguments, I tend to agree with them. His only claim to fame is the long ball. Never batted for avg., never had monster RBI #'s despite the home runs he hit because he was horrible with runners in scoring position, at best an average defensive first baseman...as much as I like Big Mac and his personality and what he brought to the game you have to question his power in an age where sports are run ragged with steroids. His overall performance is not HOF worthy in my opinion.

it is unfair to use the steriods thing against him. Even if he did use, he did it at a time when it wasn't against the rules. He is seventh on the all time HR list. I think the next highest to not be in the Hall (who is eligible) is 17th or somewhere around there.
"McGwire was the best first baseman in the game. He was that when he was a relatively skinny kid in Oakland and remained so when he was a bloated and pock-marked monster in St. Louis." big difference to be "average at best" to "the best". Everyone has their own opinions, but that is too much of a difference. I'm def not a huge baseball fan, but I want to see him in.

I dont think Mac should get in, all he was was a power hitter, a better version of Dave Kingman, Half of his Hrs were when he was on Roids, I dont think hell ever get in, getting 23% of the votes your first time around is not that good. Bonds will make it because he was a Hall of Famer before the roid use, and he was a great all around player. All Mac could do was hit for power.
