Giants get their new starting RB...

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2793305

My take? The Giants got a real pro in Droughns. Despite what they say, Droughns is actually a very good man who'll be great for the team. He has a great work ethic and is very durable. Was great in his first year in CLE but then struggled when he was forced to split carries when CLE drafted Lee Suggs. Droughns let his unhappiness known to management and they called him a troublemaker. I mean, the guy ran for 1300 yards for a horrible team with no blocking and then complains when they draft an RB and force him to split carries? I'd say he had a legitimate gripe in CLE. Only thing I think that may linger in his mind is the same thing happening in NY with Jacobs...but I'm sure NY promised him they'd use him with Jacobs as they did with Tiki. Which I think will make the fans, and Droughns happy. He's a talented guy and will provide a steady bit of offense for the Giants. Congrats NY fans. I actually wanted us to get Droughns in DET to help in case Kevin Jones wasn't ready to play this year...but we ended up with Tatum Bell instead.

I am happy they picked up someone but not sure about him. I am not that familiar with him though.

They need a WR badly. Can't keep throwing it up to Plaxico

He is a good Rb, i think Jacobs will be a much better back though, I hope Droughns finds the Giants bench comfy

I still think Jacobs is too one dimensional at this point in his career. He needs to work on picking up blitzes and catching balls out of the backfield to be an every down back. Until then he'll just be a banger. Great guy to give it off to or run a 3rd/4th and short play action pass off...but otherwise he's limited in his abilities. Droughns should get the majority of the work unless he underperforms.

are you crazy? have you ever watched a giants game? Jacobs was spelling Barber all year long up to week 12 or 13 on 1st, 2nd and 3rd down, he can catch the ball just as good as barber could, and they used him on passing situations to block the blitz which he got very good at. If anyone is 1 dimensional its Droughns, Jacobs, is bigger, faster, more agile and has alot more upside. Jacobs was used as a short yardage back his rookie year and that was all, last year they used him in every situation possible and he showed he can more than carry the load

BRANDON JACOBS 2006 Stats

96 carries
423 yards
4.4avg
9td

11 rec
149 yds
13.5 avg.
long 43
he had a good year and you also have to take into effect he got close to no playing time the last 4-5 weeks because they were saying fair well to tiki and letting him have the whole load.

Yes, I watch the Giants. Other then watching all of my Lions games, I like to watch the local teams and games where U of Michigan alums play big roles. I like cheering for teams with players I like, as its awfully painful being a Lions fan. Some days I wonder why I bother and don't just boycott until they fire our GM who's name I can't even muster the stomach to type. Anyway, I watch a LOT of Cleveland Browns games (love Braylon Edwards...how couldn't ANYONE not cheer for him after seeing that game vs Michigan State his senior season, simply the best individual effort ever by a WR in college football) and I don't think that you've seen Rueben Droughns play. He is a HARD runner with above average speed. He will make one move and then explode through the hole. Unfortunately Romeo Cronell decided to play musical running backs and use Lee Suggs and William Green (gag) in combination with Droughns (and people wonder wtf is wrong with Clevelands offense). Droughns is an A+ guy and brings a lot to the G-men. I think you'll be VERY surprised once he's suited up in the blue and white and getting the lions share of the work. I still think Jacobs is a lack luster receiver (he had as many drops as he did receptions, which you failed to point out) and still needs to work on picking up blocks. When he played at Auburn/SIU in college he did neither of these things either which is making his learning curve a little bit tougher then a lot of people. He has the potential to be a star in the future, but for now he'll continue to play second fiddle to Droughns who I see having a 1600+ yard season for the G-Men.

well i hope Droughns doesnt even have the chance to get those carries, Im a huge fan of the NFL and have seen everyone play....everyone, Imnot impressed with Droughns at all, 1200 yds with cleveland isnt that impressive, he was all they had that year, i dismiss what he did with the broncos because a person with no legs could run for 1200+ yards with that line (olandis gary, mike anderson) only time will tell what will happen next season, no use in arguing over it were giving our opinions, I think Jacobs will be a much better back, hes alot bigger, faster, agile, and he has the attitude to do the job. I cant wait til next season either way, if Droughns is the full time starter and has 1500+ yards i would be happy, i just dont see it happening though...........well see

Oh and the Lions are a joke, they should draft a WR this year lol
