Detroit Lions
As other teams are getting their own threads...figured I'd start one for my Lions. We may not be the greatest team this season, but I ensure you we'll be exciting to watch. We have players at every position on offense who can score every time they touch the ball (R. Williams, C. Johnson, S. McDonald, M. Furrey, T. Bell...) and some guys on the defense who flat out aim to kill people when they hit them (E. Sims, K. Kennedy). Should be a lot of fun this year. If we can only give up 21ish points per game I say we win at least 8 games this year. Man, that would be excellent. I've been dreaming of mediocrity the past few seasons. We could be the New Orleans Saints of this season and surprise everyone, too. Ya never know!

All I have to say is that the Raiders had that game on Sunday and they blew it. The Lions did play much better than I thought they would though.
The Raiders could be a pretty good team this year I think, especially now that Russell finally signed. (Either way, they have nowhere to go but up)

All I have to say is the Raiders never have any game. They suck and will be at the basement of the NFL until Al Davis dies or someone from the black hole kills him.
The Lions are fun to watch. I like there 3 headed monster at RB and Kitna is always fun and one to root for IMO. I think they def could win 8-9 games. There WRs are sick. Everyone knew that Roy Williams anbd Johnson were big but isnt it funny that Furrey turned out to be better than Mike Williams and Charles Rogers

Rogers is in drug rehab somewhere and I'm sure Mike Williams will be checking in soon. Those 2 were horrible ideas. Undersized/injury prone Rogers and Mike Williams who hadn't played football in a year going into the draft. Millen FTL!
But yeah, you can't not like Jon Kitna...he's just a real good guy and I love that he believes in his team and has stepped into a leadership role for the younger guys. If Millen gets his head out of his ass and lets Rod Marinelli handle things this could be the start of something special in Detroit. Bell/Duckett is a good start...Kevin Jones should be back to 100% by week 3-4. I'm nervous about seeing how he responds to the foot injury though, tough one for a running back to return from. Was very happy they got Bell/Duckett in the offseason to sure things up just in case. Travis Fisher looks like he could have been a steal for them also in Marinelli's cover 2 scheme. Made several nice plays against the Raiders Sunday (granted its Oakland). And I still like Fernando Bryant despite him getting up in years. Just a smart CB. Fingers crossed! Vikings coming to the D this week. A must win for things to continue going well. Should be a good challenge for the young offense as the Vikings D is stacked.

The Lions were up 17-0 and the Raiders came back and took the lead 21-20. Not only that, but they missed 3 field goals. I think the Raiders are gonna surprise a lot of people this year, thats all I will say.

They will win 4 games without a problem, especially once they get Porter more involved in the offense.

They have a very good defense (despite what the Lions did to them). They were one of if not the top pass defense last season. They did, if memory serves me, struggle against the run though. Oak could be a tough team to beat if Culpepper is given the starting job. I feel he gives them the best chance to win this season (Russell needs to sit at least a year to get the feel of the NFL. NO QB comes in as a rookie and has success)

Porter would be a 3rd reciever on most teams, hes not that good. There WR, TE, QB, RB all stink, your not winning with that offense. No way

Only time will tell. They have never had HUGE name offensive threats, with the exception of Tim Brown and Jerry Rice for the time they had him, but look at how good they were when Gannon was at QB? I bet you most people wouldn't call Gannon a great QB, yet he almost broke the single season passing yardage record and he was league MVP and Pro Bowl MVP; plus they got screwed in the playoffs by the Pats.
Sorry about this guys, Mike, you can break this stuff off in a separate thread if you want.

I'd argue that point Walt...
-Ronald Curry is a good WR
-Joey Porter is a good WR
(note: good, not great)
-Lamont Jordan is a very good RB
(pending he stays healthy)
-Justin Fargas is a good RB
(compliments Jordan well. Very fast/athletic)
-Daunte Caulpepper was one of the best QB's in the NFL until his knee surgery. Typically it takes a full year to return from a major knee surgery such as his. If given the chance, he can be great. Remember - he had the best QB rating EVER in the NFL up until the time he hurt his knee. Had no weapons, a bad offensive system, a college coach who was in way over his head (Kiffen is better suited after being Pete Carroll's assistant than Nick Saban ever was or will be) and was still recovering from surgery in Miami.
