2008 NFL Draft
So what does everyone think about how their teams faired at the draft this year?
The Raiders picked McFadden which is a great pick, but I personally didn't think they needed another running back. I think the Raiders should have taken Dorsey.

My 49ers failed epically in the draft in my opinion... I understand drafting a DE to replace the departed Bryant Young and to beef up what is a decent defensive team, however the lack of adding any real offensive standouts during free agency despite Isaac Bruce who is a great reciever but is aging made it necessary for them to draft some offensive players this year... Some very good recievers were available as well as a few decent QB's when their picks were up. I'm still unsure on Alex Smith because he has either had zero help on offense, a terrible O line, or has been injured... it would have been nice to give him all the tools this coming season to see if he is the guy or if he needs to be replaced.

I'm very happy with the Giants draft...a solid S in Kenny Phillips in the first round and what I believe could be the steal of the draft in Manningham out of Michigan, the veteran reciever Toomer is also from Michigan and I'm sure will look fwd to teaching him the ways of how to be a good NFL WR, on and off the field.

Werd man I coudnt agree more This is the second good draft in a row by the Super Bowl champs. Phillips will probably be starting at safety before week 8. Him and Sammy Knight will be nasty together. I LOVED the Manningham pick. He was a top 5 reciever before he had his problems. He does need to mature a little bit though. Terell Thomas will be a nice nickelback. I cant wait til the preseason to see Andre Woodson at QB, hell make a good backup

Giants definately had a good draft in my opinion as well. I also thought Manningham was a steal and got lost a bit last season because of the Michigan woes.
On a side note what did everyone else think of the other picks? Jake Long at #1... McFadden to the Raiders? Ryan to Atlanta? Flacco to Baltimore?

Baltimore could have gotten Flacco a LOT later...they wasted their pick.
Matt Ryan is a good pick for the Falcons. They need a new face for people to root for at the QB position since the whole Vick thing. Jake Long was the best player in the draft and will anchor the LT spot for the Dolphins for YEARS to come. Especially key as they're young at the QB position. KC by far and away had the BEST draft w/o a doubt. Giants were solid, they took my guy Manningham. My boy Henne went to Miami and could end up being the starter as he was a Parcells pick and Beck was not. Mike Hart to Indy warmed my heart because Tony Dungy will absolutely love the kids character and work ethic. Will be a great compliment back to Addai.
Lions draft - addressed a lot of needs instead of doing the stupid thing and drafting for the best players. We picked up a solid T in the first round, LB in the 2nd, then perhaps the steal of the draft in the 3rd picking up Kevin James who was the NCAA's leading rusher the past 3 seasons and is 2nd all time only to...Barry Sanders! Great possibilities for this kid and won't have to be "the guy" right away with Tatum Bell still in town to help carry the load. Also stole a DE from FSU who was projected to be a 2nd rounder in the 4th...no huge names aside from James for the Lions but just a solid, solid draft. Here's to the 08 NFL season!

Totally agree on the Mike Hart and Chad Henne comments. I think Henne has good potential and in the right system could be a solid starter for Miami. Mike Hart has been a favorite player of mine for years... the kid gives it everything he has every play whether he touches the ball or not. Also agree with Flacco... I'm not sure why they gave up so much to grab him at 18? He likely would have been there in round 2...

IDK if you watched the draft but I liked that the lions picked up Caleb Cambell the S from Army, he's a smashmouth player and I think they should put a few more pounds on him and he would make quite a impact at OLB

yeah. Lebron has that effect on me too lol. Im a knicks fan and they suck so in the playoffs im rooting for Utah. I like thier team. Hey man were you pulling for the Lions to pick Mike Hart seeing how he lasted so long? I just heard on ESPN him landing on the Colts might be perfect. TRhey said he could get 10-15 carries as Addais backup.

After we drafted Smith I knew any chance of getting Hart were gone. I knew we were looking for at maximum ONE HB in the draft. Smith has the bigger playmaker ability - and I'm VERY happy to see Hart goto a good team and be able to fit into coach Dungy's system. He's the type of player Dungy adores in that he is all heart and has a motor that never stops. He should defenitely get 10-15 touches per game this season. Don't be surprised if he avg's 4+ ypc and gets more touches as the season goes on in teh running game.

Tatum Bell is a good NFL rb but will never be anything more than that. He relies on his speed/quickness to make plays and is unable to play in Marinelli's power run scheme as a featured back. He will be the starter but we definitely needed a between the tackles runner that can hit the 1-2 gaps hard. Hopefully with some of the load taken off Kitna with our new OC and Marinelli finally getting to impliment his own scheme our offense will take greater strides forward. It's great to have Roy/CJ/Furrey/MacDonald but not so much when teams KNOW you're going to throw 99% of the time and your line is poor and QB is immobile.
