MYIX8UR8 inside, VW question
Justin, got a quick question for you about VW's….If you remember from a while back I talked to you about changing the tranny fluid in the cabrio…well I think I am going a different route now for our problem. My first thought for this whole delayed upshifting problem was a throttle position sensor, but when I noticed everything was integrated into the throttle valve control module or whatever its called I just hoped that wasn't it. Well, I have a feeling that’s what it is.
Anyway, long story short, do you know if that’s something that can be adjusted or do I have to replace the entire unit? If the whole unit has to be replaced, do you know what those things cost?
Also, how much are you guys getting for the 2.0T Eos?

Chris,
if it is indeed the sensor that tells the tranny when to shift the whole unit needs to be replaced. The good news is that you can get it off of any 2.0 Jetta/Golf/Cabrio at any junk yard for really really cheap as there are a ton of them out there. Also, depending on the tranny/trim of the EOS they're currently around $500 over invoice.

Thanks Justin. I am not sure if we have any good junk yards around here, but I will look around. If I can get it for dirt cheap, I may just swap it and hope thats the problem. Also, do you know how much the mechanics there charge to hook up to Vag-Com? Also, what years did the 2.0 come in the Jetta's and Golf's, I am too lazy to look it up?
So what do you think of the EOS?

The 2.0 was used in all MKIII and MKIV's. Tons of them out there, if I come across any at the yard up by my house I'll be sure to let you know.
The Eos is an alright car. The styling is a little fem. for my taste but its fun to drive and the hard top with the sunroof is a very unique feature. Enough room for 4 people and available in any tranny. If you don't need all the frills I'd recommend just getting the base model w/ the 5 spd manual. Otherwise opt for the sport package. The sport seats themselves are worth every penny! DSG is cool too if you're going for the sport pkg.

Haha, yea the Eos wouldn't be for me! Anyway, yea if you happen across anything let me know, I found one u-pull-it place that I am gonna check out this weekend.
Do you guys have that Vag-Com tool for the VW/Audi's? If so, how much do they charge for hooking up to it?

they have the vag-com here and i think they would charge an hour of labor. you should be able to goto any autozone/advanced and they can pull codes at no cost with a scan tool

From what I have read though, vag-com can talk to other systems in the car that a scan tool won't. The scan tool will only talk to the engine. (There is no check engine light currently on either)

That is very true, the vag-com can communicate with any electronic system in the vehicle. I was under the assumption you had a cel present. I'm 99% positive it's 1 hour labor flat charge to plug in the vag machine and do a diag. with it.

How much is the going rate for that, do you know? I am gonna try and find a cheap throttle body and swap them out and see if thats the problem, but if its not then I may have to get the info pulled.

Well it looks like I might have to get someone with Vag-Com software to take a look at it. The most likely cause is the wrong throttle angle position and the only way to reset that is with the Vag-Com software it looks like.
