offsets

alright, hopefully someone here can help me since mr2oc hasn't been any help.

heres whats up, i'm running a 17x7 up front on my car with i believe a +38 offset (right around there). mike has my car and is stretching the front of the car an inch on each side, now i would like to run an 18x9. but i don't know what offset i will need to run, so thats what i need to know, how do i find out the offset and make it as close to flush as possible and know it will clear the suspension.

The best way is to wait til it's done and measure.

+1...really the ONLY way to do it if you want to ensure that it's accurate.

if your current wheel is centered perfectly you can come up with the right offset, if it's not centered, you'll end up rubbing like crazy if you calculate the new offset based on the old wheels. wait til you're done, measure it 5 times and get it right.

Or any competant wheel and tire shop should be able to do it for you. Especially the aftermarket "put-my-91-legend-on-24s-please" wheel places.

so i couldn't find on either of those sites exactly what i need to measure on my car to figure out the offset i need for my wheels so if someone could post that up that would be awsome because i am going up to see my car later this week and would like to measure so i can order my wheels early next week...and if i overlooked it im blaming it on 6 hours of sleep combined from the last 2 nights.

i dunno if this will help, but seems most informative to me

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...eelOffsets.jsp

so apparently measure from the hub to the fender, then see what the offset is from your rim and then how deep the lip is? i'm not sure but what i get from it is measure from the hub to the fender

after reading a little more this is what i get, measure from the center of the wheel, + or - your offset and that total should equal the length from your hub to your fender
example:
9" wide rims -
sayyy 18mm offset
gap from hub to fender should be 4.5" minus 18mm

or

9" wide rims
negative 18mm offset
gap from hub to fender should be 4.5" plus 18mm

i could be wrong cuz this confuses me, but thats what sounds right to me
